Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department (RDWSD) is working towards ensuring sanitation and provide clean drinking water to the rural areas of Karnataka. It administers the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBMG) Karnataka and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Karnataka (also known as Mane Manege Gange) components. With a larger objective, RDWSD Karnataka was created on 4th March 2014 under Rural Development & Panchayat Raj Department Karnataka. Commissioner heads the department, and also holds the responsibility of executing the work related to drinking water and sanitation of the state’s rural areas.
Programmes under the department:
Major objectives of the department are to implement block development policies with an aim to achieve sustainability in the health status of rural people and to lessen the poverty line. The department is providing timely strategy and policy guidelines on water and sanitation in all phases like Gram Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat, Zilla Panchayat and State Office.

An ambitious project of the Government of India. Karnataka State Government has implemented Jal Jeevan Mission in Karnataka as ‘Mane Manege Gange’ Scheme to provide safe and pure drinking water through Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) in Rural Karnataka.
